Abu Nuhas is a must-visit for any scuba diver who enjoys wrecks! It’s a very popular area for wreck diving, purely because there are four ships lying next to each other within recreational divers’ limits, plus one more that’s very deep.

Probably the most-popular area for scuba diving in Egypt and The Red Sea, Ras Mohamed has something for everyone. Its popularity is thanks to its location that allows for day trip diving as well as learning to scuba dive. Plus there’s a vast amount of marine life there, including sharks. There are more than a dozen great dive sites, with all kinds of conditions. Finally, it’s possible to dive there all year round. It’s not the best dive area in The Red Sea, but it is the most popular, and it’s very very good!

SS Thistlegorm Wreck

SS THISTLEGORM WRECK

SS Thistlegorm is easily the most-famous diving wreck of The Red Sea. Thistlegorm was a British transport ship used in World War II and on its way to the Suez Canal when it was sunk by a German airstrike in the middle of the night October 5th-6th 1941.

Elphinstone Reef

Elphinstone Reef

Elphinstone is the main and best place in The Red Sea to dive with several species of sharks, including the Oceanic Whitetip Shark (Carcharhinus longimanus). You might think that to encounter pelagics like this at such an unspoilt reef that the dive site is in the middle of nowhere.

Daedalus Reef

Daedalus Reef

Daedalus Reef is one of the best dive sites in The Red Sea and Egypt. Its remote location ensures that it remains protected from too many visitors, and attracts lots of marine life of all sizes. Daedalus (also known as Abu Kizan) lies 80 km east of Marsa Alam, and in a national marine park.

Brothers Islands

The Brothers (known locally as El Akhawein) are two uninhabited rocky islets in Egypt’s Red Sea and regarded as the best diving location in the country. They’re also considered to be among the top dive destinations in the world. Big Brother is the larger island and has a Victorian lighthouse, Little Brother is just five minutes’ boat ride away. They are steep-sided cones, probably made from volcanic action thousands of years ago.

Salem Express Wreck

Salem Express

Salem Express was a former 115m long passenger ferry which sank in 1991 at great human cost just south of Safaga. The immense tragedy of this event makes diving the Salem Express a unique experience that leaves a lasting impression on most scuba divers. She rests on her starboard side on a flat sand bottom at 27m of depth, with the shallowest section at just 7m.
